• Transition your cat to flushable litter before beginning the training
• Plan to begin toilet training your cat when you don’t have any travel plans scheduled in the immediate future.
• Tape your toilet lid up so friends and family members don’t put it down by during training
• Place a ‘Toilet Training in Progress’ sign on your bathroom door or mirror to remind guests that you are in the process of toilet training your cat.
• Close doors to extra rooms in your home during training and limit your cats access to just a few areas.
• If your cat needs some more grip on the toilet seat consider getting a padded or wooden toilet seat.
• If your cat ever begins scratching your toilet paper consider keeping it in your bathroom cabinet for the remainder of the training.
• Store your training litter in a location your cat does not have access to.
• Place a small trash can in the bathroom during training so you can keep the training area as clean as possible.

Accident Prevention Tips

• Remove any bath mats you currently have in the bathroom. This will eliminate any temptation your cat may have to have an accident there.
• Fill your bathtub and bathroom sink with a small amount of water during the training. A ½” will do. This will prevent your cat thinking these are great places to go the bathroom.
• Cover the soil in potted plants with tinfoil or remove them from your home during training. You don't want your cat to think this is a place to go.
• By nature cats don't drink a lot of water. If your cat has hard time going #2 on the toilet consider introducing wet food into their diet.
• Regulate your cats bathroom habits by placing them on a feeding schedule. Adjust the time you feed your cat so that they are more likely to go the bathroom while you are home. This way you can be around to encourage your cat to use the toilet.
• If your cat begins to show resistance or nervousness while using the toilet slow down the pace of the training and make each new change a very small one.
